Astral was founded in 2002 on the banks of the Rocky Broad River near Asheville, NC. We are a focused group of paddlers , designers, engineers, and regular good people. We spend most of our time creating cool stuff and trying our best to please our customers. Astral is a small open business where our success is judged by our customers and our own personal satisfaction, doing the best possible work for the most good. Here’s a look at some of our key people.
We can kayak, canoe, paddleboard, swim and sail just five minutes from our office and warehouse in Plympton. As MTI enters its 20th year of business, we reflect on what a wonderful adventure it has been. From humble beginnings in the suburban Boston home of the Takashina’s to now having a sales, design, and distribution headquarters in beautiful Southern Massachusetts and a brand that is sold across North America, Japan, and Australia, we have grown with the sport of paddlesports. MTI is still a family owned business, and our focus remains on designing and building an outstanding range of PFDs for human powered on-water adventuring.
Kokatat has been manufacturing paddling gear in Arcata, California since 1971. At a time when many technical apparel brands were moving manufacturing offshore, Kokatat continued to invest in infrastructure in the United States. Kokatat founder Steve O’Meara was committed to the development of the finest and driest paddling apparel in the world and recognized the need to control and continually evolve the development of our dry wear.
